Hi, I’m Prof. Pete — a retired economist with a passion for making economics understandable for everyone. Over the years, I’ve been called insightful, practical, and even a bit charming when explaining the difference between fiscal and monetary policy! Now, I’m bringing that same energy to this blog, where I break down complex economic ideas into plain language .
I’ve spent decades in the trenches of real-world economics — from building fiscal plans in post-conflict Kosovo (yes, really!) to advising governments in Canada, Azerbaijan, and the UAE. My last role was as Professor of Practice at NYU Abu Dhabi, where I loved teaching students from around the world. Before that, I served as a Fiscal Policy Advisor to the Department of Finance in Abu Dhabi and worked at the Bank of Canada shaping monetary policy.
This blog is a continuation of my teaching journey. It’s for students, the curious, and anyone who wants to make sense of the forces shaping our economies. Think of me as your friendly economic translator — helping you navigate policy, markets, and the world with clarity (and the occasional dry joke).
